Pandemic PR: A Crash Course in “Unprecedented” Crisis Communications

March 16 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

While the use of the word “unprecedented” has now become taboo in the PR world, it was initially an apt description of what the world was experiencing as COVID-19 swept across the globe in early 2020. As PR professionals trained in crisis communication management, we were as prepared as we possibly could be. Preparation and skill aside, none of us could have predicted the wild ride we’d be on for the next two-plus years.

As the pandemic drags on, it’s important for us, as communications professionals, to stay connected, work together and support one another through sharing of plans, ideas and lessons learned. We invite you to join the Greater Spokane PRSA Chapter for an insightful discussion with a panel of seasoned COVID-19 communicators from some of Spokane’s most hard-hit sectors on Wednesday, March 16.

Our interactive panel discussion and Q&A will highlight the initial onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in Spokane, the difficulties we have faced in battling misinformation, and the constantly evolving communications strategies we continue to deploy as the pandemic stretches into the future.

Featured Panelists:

  • Brian Coddington, City of Spokane – Director of Communications and Marketing
  • Kelli Hawkins, Spokane Regional Health District – PIO/Public Information & Government Affairs Manager
  • Beth Hegde, Providence – Director of Communications
  • Marla Nunberg, Central Valley School District – Director of Communications
  • Eric Williams, 2nd Harvest – Community Partnerships Director

Moderated by Julie Holland, Director of Public Relations & Communications, Kalispel Tribal Economic Authority/Northern Quest Resort & Casino

* Attendees are asked to wear face coverings for the duration of the program, in alignment with current CDC guidelines. Following the event, there will be an informal no-host social downstairs at Saranac Public House for anyone who wants to join (4:30-5:30 p.m.).
